Michael Smith-Grant Takes Misterpopotv And Godlike Entertainment To Higher Heights In 2015 [EXCLUSIVE]

2014 was a great year for popular YouTube vlogger Michael Smith-Grant. His YouTube channel, Misterpopotv, has roughly 60,000 subscribers and his social media account following is just as large. He has worked with the team at Dramafever, was a special guest at KCON 2014 and is developing artists and entertainers through his label, Godlike Entertainment. He is widely respected as one of the innovators in the Hallyu Vlogger genre, a term created by YouTube personality Multifacetedacg that gained traction during this year's Shorty Awards.

Recently, the entertainer and entrepreneur had a moment to discuss the innovations of his brand. From new playlists and a move away from reaction videos, to a talk show and short films, Smith-Grant is setting the bar even higher for his peers.

You announced to your audience in February that you were making changes to your YouTube channel. What is the main takeaway from this?

Michael Smith-Grant (MSG): I guess the key points for my K-Pop channel is, I've gone in the route of little to no reaction videos (no solo reactions) to open discussions, panels, interviews and more informational videos. This year, creating compelling, engaging and educational content is my goal.

You have also introduced a new segment about K-pop groups. Can you share more about this?

MSG: "Bridging the Gap" will create an online video encyclopedia of all korean music acts--big, small and disbanded. Just because a group has disbanded doesn't mean the music they released is lost forever.

And "Real Talk" has the feel of a talk show. What is the concept for this playlist?

MSG: "Real Talk" is a platform for topics in an open discussion form. It's expanded into bringing K-Pop fans into a talk show. Special episodes will open up the panels to K-Pop fans in New York City to come down and debate their thoughts on various Korean entertainment news.

Do these changes mean the staples, like "Attack on Kpop," are leaving?

MSG: "Attack on Kpop" is [still] the primary show to keep fans in the loop for various korean entertainment news ranging from music video releases to scandals. "Kpop Keep Up," however, will take the place of regular reaction videos. Reviews and concrete discussions power this series as well as a platform to discuss rookie groups.

Is there anything else you want to share with the KpopStarz audience?

MSG: Short films and Web Series are in the works as I look to venture more outside of Korean entertainment and move back to my area of expertise, which is screenplay writing.
