Kim Tae Woo's Soulshop Entertainment Plans Appeal Court Decision In Lawsuit Against 'Make It Pop' Star Megan Lee

The lawsuit between Megan Lee and Soulshop Entertainment has come to a close. On March 20th, it was ruled that Lee's exclusive contract with the entertainment company is not legally binding. Now, several months of litigation are reportedly being followed up with an appeal by Kim Tae Woo's label.

Last November, Megan Lee's representation stated that, while under contract with Soulshop Entertainment (stylized as Soul S#op) she was unjustly treated and was even scheduled for a performance without consent. Things came to a head when Lee's U.S. representation secured a leading role for her in Nickelodeon's upcoming K-pop influenced show, "Make It Pop."

Seoul Central District Court's ruling from the original lawsuit mandated that Soulshop Entertainment could not force Megan Lee to promote without her consent. This included television broadcasts, radio, musicals, and film. Furthermore, the entertainment company is not allowed to sign contracts regarding her promotions without the her consent.

Reportedly, a representative for Soulshop Entertainment says that a civil suit has been filed against Megan Lee and that the company is willing to take things to the Supreme Court. If won, the civil suit would prevent Lee from all activity within the entertainment industry. The representative goes on to say, "Two of the reasons were that the exclusive contract stipulated a five-year term and also split the profits fifty-fifty. This shows that the court does not understand how the entertainment industry operates."
