G-Dragon, Won Bin, EXO Members Highlighted As Representatives Of Ideal Korean Male Beauty Standards In Recent Buzzfeed Article

The reign of the flower boys continues.

American website Buzzfeed compiled a list of male beauty standards throughout the world, highlighting many countries' ideal looks. Each country's descriptions included a description of the "hottest" male celebrities, and South Korea's description highlighted G-Dragon, EXO, and actor Won Bin.

The article, titled "Men's Standards Of Beauty Around The World," described the male Korean ideal men as "mix hard, muscular bodies with soft features and are highly stylized."

Buzzfeed polled people about twelve different countries ideals of masculinity, and noted that South Korea was the single most country with people from outside of it voting, likely due to the popularity of K-pop internationally.

"South Korea overwhelmingly had the most responses in our Facebook poll from viewers who were not from the country they were commenting on," wrote Buzzfeed before explaining further, "meaning many non-Koreans were intimately familiar with Korean male beauty standards."

Eugene Lee Yang, a member of BuzzFeed Motion Pictures Staff, spearheaded the study. He has become one of the most popular Korean-American Internet icons due to his BuzzFeed activities.

The article also highlighted several aspects of South Korean masculinity and male beauty, including the fact that, "K-pop stars often wear fashion-forward clothing and makeup."

Also highlighted was the fact that South Korea spent around $635 million USD on men's skin care in 2013 alone. Plastic surgery and skin lighteners are particularly popular among South Korean men.

Along with discussing individual K-pop stars, the article explained how South Korean pop culture is popular all over the world.

Buzzfeed has introduced K-pop and Hallyu entertainment to its audience on several occasions, including a video where Americans tried to pronounce the names of Korean celebrities.
