Billboard's Jeff Benjamin Calls EXO’s ‘Call Me Baby’ Reminiscent Of Late '90s Pop Music

On Wednesday, Billboard released an article on their K-pop column, K-Town, and praised EXO’s new song, “Call Me Baby” as it revealed to have gone back to “boy band basics.”

“One of the best parts about K-pop is how reminiscent it is of one of the most exciting eras of pop music,” wrote K-pop columnist Jeff Benjamin for Billboard on Wednesday.

EXO’s “Call Me Baby” seemed to be inspired by the late ’90s/early ’00s sound, but with added intensity and stronger beats and dance moves, giving it a more modern sound.

The music video also does not use the usual flashy K-pop visuals and rather just focuses on the song and the dance performance.

Their new album, “Exodus,” has been released in both Korean and Chinese and has ranked fifth on the US iTunes World Album Charts.

Not only did the album rank fifth on the iTunes album chart, but it also topped the chart in 11 countries as well.

They will be making their first comeback performance on Mnet’s “M! Countdown” on Thursday.

Members Kai and Tao, who are still recovering from their injuries from their EXO’luXion concert in Seoul, will still be doing promotional activities with the group.

“Tao is now recovered enough to both receive treatment and attend dance rehearsals,” said leader Suho posted on China Topix on Tuesday.

Their music video is currently at six million views.
