Miss Me Or Diss Me: The Complex Post-Scandal Success Of MC Mong

Even as scandal taints his career, one Korean rapper is popping up everywhere.

In 2014, MC Mong made his first post-scandal comeback. The reactions were less then forgiving, but his album did well on Korean music charts. Initially blamed as media hype, MC Mong has now become the go-to man for a lot of Korean artists.

While his image struggles, MC Mong's songs are some of the most popular in South Korea in 2015.

Everything kicked off in November 2014, with MC Mong's "Miss Me or Diss Me" album, after which he released, was featured, and produced some of the most popular Korean songs of 2015.

Not only did MC Mong's album "Miss Me or Diss Me" do well upon release, it was recognized as one of Gaon Chart's K-pop songs of the year due to its popularity in November.

In March 2015, MC Mong made his mark on the Korean music scene once again.

His single "Love Mash," featuring Chancellor of the Channels, was released on March 1 and continued appearing within the top twenty on Korean digital charts as of the publishing of this article on April 9.

While his March solo single "Love Mash" does well, the song that MC Mong produced for the competition show Unpretty Rapstar is doing even better. "Like Nobody" sung by winner Cheetah and singer Ailee was produced by MC Mong, and spent several weeks in the top ten of Korean music charts.

MC Mong also appeared on NS Yoonji's latest comeback song, "Wifey."

Even as the three songs do well in April, reactions from K-pop fans reveal that some are unsure how to react to a good musician who they can't support becuase of personal beliefs.

In regards to "Like Nobody," one fan on Nate wrote, "Did the producers receive a basket of bananas from that monkey [MC Mong]? This is such a betrayal. Do they think that there is no problem putting a criminal on the show just because hip hop is all about swearing?"

NS Yoonji's song "Wifey" was completely overwhelmed by the scandal, with many comments on Osen relating to MC Mong rather than the singer herself.

"NS Yoonji will never make it," said one reader. "Whoever thought it was a good idea to stick NS in front of her name is a fool. Is her CEO dumb? Why would it be a good idea to get her hate by featuring MC Mong. She'll never have a chance anymore and she's already 28 years old. "
