Six years is too long to keep entertainers off television, according to Choi Min Hee.

Choi, a Korean assemblywoman affiliated with the New Politics Alliance for Democracy party, proposed a revision to Korean broadcasting laws that will make it difficult for Korean broadcasters to continue unfair practices. The so-called "JYJ bill" will keep Korean television networks from keeping people off air without reasonable cause.

The bill is an attempt to allow Korean celebrities to appear on television after disputes with former agencies.

JYJ is a three-member Korean idol group that formed in 2010. The three members, Kim Junsu, Park Yoochun, and Kim Jaejoong, left one of the first global K-pop acts, TVXQ and sued former agency SM Entertainment in 2009. The Korean Fair Trade Commission ruled in favor of the group in 2013.

While the members have appeared on television in Korean dramas, the three have been kept off air allegedly due to influence by SM Entertainment. JYJ has not performed as a group on television in six years, although Junsu performed on a Korean music show for the first time since 2009 in April.

The "JYJ bill" aims to enable the Korea Communications Commission to intervene in the case of broadcaster's deciding to ban individuals seemingly without reason.

JYJ was used as an example due to SM Entertainment's alleged meddling in the trio's career. In 2013, the Korea Fair Trade Commission ordered SM Entertainment to stop impeding JYJ's career.

JYJ has been kept off of Korean music shows for the past six years, and also been kept from appearing at other events, including keeping the group from performing at the Incheon Asian Games while the trio was official ambassadors.

Member Junsu was the first to perform on Korean television in six years, and fans came out to express support to EBS while expressing anger towards SM Entertainment's alleged influence over the television industry.
