Amy Adams was propelled into the sky on Superman's shoulders in the movie "Man of Steel" where she played Lois Lane, but the actress doesn't like being cooped up on a plane. Amy Adams has a fear of flying.

Amy Adams, 40, suffers from claustrophobia, which is a fear of enclosed spaces. The actress says the common phobia gets in the way of traveling because she has a terror of getting into planes to travel from one movie to the next. Not to mention the junket, which can be pretty scary and claustrophobic themselves.

Adams uses meditation and self-hypnosis to control her fears.

''I'm afraid of flying, I also have claustrophobia and a social phobia," Adams said in an interview with Germany's Glamour magazine. "None of this has been diagnosed, but I recognize the symptoms as they affect me. Meditation and self-hypnosis help, and if I, for example, fly with my daughter, I will not let on.''

She says her four-year-old daughter with her artist fiancé Darren Le Gallo, Aviana, inspired her to take measures to control her emotions.

''I call my daughter," the "Big Eyes" star told German Glamour. "It's great not to have a serious conversation with her as Aviana is just four years old. Just to chat with her and listen to her voice. Sometimes I even just need a picture of her. Everything modifies itself and reminds me of what is really important in life.''

Amy credits her fear of failure with helping her success.

''When I started out in Hollywood there were times when I had doubts ... It was only because a lack of alternatives that I stayed with acting. I wondered considered going back to school or moving to New York and then learn dance and try my luck in musicals, but I just wasn't sure. It was this uncertainty that ultimately kept me (in acting)," she said.
