K-Pop Destinations: Pretend You're A K-Drama Star Amidst Seoul's Cherry Blossoms

Welcome to 'K-pop Destinations,' the series that helps readers travel across the world. We'll show you where hit shows and videos are filmed, where top performers are giving concerts, or where your favorite stars take their vacations. That way, the next time you take a vacation, you can make sure to incorporate a little K-pop travel into your getaway.

Spring has sprung in the Northern Hemisphere, and for Korea, that means one thing - the cherry blossoms are in full bloom.

The soft and romantic blossoms from cherry trees are a popular background for K-dramas, but not just because of their beauty. Cherry blossom season is notoriously short - often lasting the first two weeks of April or even less - reminding K-drama viewers that life and love can be bright and full in one moment and tragically fleeting the next.

This year, several K-pop stars, including Rainbow's Seungah, Greem Kim, and Jun Hyosung have shared images via their social media accounts that show off Seoul's magnificent blossoms.

If you're lucky enough to be in Korea during the first half of April, a cherry blossom sightseeing trip is mandatory. The trees are scattered throughout most of the neighborhoods of Seoul and across the countryside, but there are a few places throughout the country where clusters of the small trees make for some peaceful, breathtaking backdrops.

One of the most popular places to view the blossoms is on Yeouriseo-ro Street, a windy tree-lined path that stretches around the National Assembly building in Seoul and plays host to the Yeouido Spring Flowers Festival each April.

The street is easily accessible by bus and subway from all of metropolitan Seoul, and features more than just flowers. During the festival, the area has an opening cermony with fireworks, an art show and garden exhibitions that showcase hundreds of types of luscious spring flowers, and is also near to the Yeouido Hangang Riverside Park, the popular weekend hangout spot that is home to a floating stage.

Keep in mind - since this is one of the most popular places, it's also going to be the most crowded. If at all possible, try to take these in on an early morning weekday, as afternoons and weekends can get uncomfortably crowded.

For a view of the cherry trees that is less swarming with people, head to Seoul Forest. It's just as accessible by public transportation but has more room and fewer crowds, making it a good place to relax and take in the atmosphere.

If you want to avoid the heart of Seoul entirely, check out Geumcheon-gu Cherry Blossom Road in the burbs of Seoul. It's about a mile and a half of blossoms in a residential area, perfect for a late afternoon stroll full of fragrant flowers.

If you can't make it to Korea for this year's blossoms, don't worry. There are always some K-dramas featuring the springtime buds that you can watch (or re-watch) to attempt to bask in the blossom's glow.
