Are Sam Smith’s Asia Tour Dates Cancelled After Vocal Cord Hemorrhage Bars Him From Performing In Australia?

Sam Smith broke hearts when he announced on Instagram that he was forced to cancel his Australia tour dates after being diagnosed with a hemorrhage to his vocal cords. Are Sam Smith's Asia tour dates in danger too?

According to Billboard, Sam Smith was due to tour Asia after his Australia concerts, kicking off his Asia tour with a May 7 show at Tokyo's Studio Coast.

A decision on those Asia concerts has yet to be announced.

But so far, all of Smith's concerts in Australia have been cancelled. His sold-out shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth have been called off, though Frontier Touring notes that a schedule is being drawn up for another tour this December. New dates will be announced soon, the promoter said.

So far, Sam Smith's cancelled Australia tour dates include: April 28 - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney; April 30 - Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne; May 1 - AEC Theatre, Adelaide, SA; May 4 - HBF Stadium.

"I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour," Smith said in a message he shared on Instagram. "I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small hemorrhage on my vocal cords. The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue. I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. This kills me."

Smith performed Saturday at Brisbane's Riverstage and played Monday night for the first of two dates at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion, before he was diagnosed with the vocal cord hemorrhage.
