According to TVGuide, the synopsis for tonight's special two-hour finale, titled "She's Leaving Home," reads: "Part 1 of 2. The impact of Derek's death is felt by Meredith and her coworkers. Meanwhile, April makes a surprising decision, which leaves Jackson baffled; and Baily and Ben disagree about their future."

Viewers will have to wait to see if Meredith can make it through her husband's funeral, and if she can cope with the loss of McDreamy.

Ellen Pompeo, who Meredith Grey posted a long string of Twitter messages on Monday,  expressing excitement about the continuation of Meredtih's journey following Derek's untimely death.

"...It is for these people and in the spirit of resilience I am honored and excited to tell the story of how Meredith goes on in the face of what feels like the impossible. I hope you will all join me on her journey. With gratitude and respect, Ellen," concluded the actress.

Patrick Dempsey, who plays Derek Shepherd, posted the following tweet on Saturday to attempt to calm fans: "I want to thank all of the fans, what an incredible 11 years, I love you all."

Show creator Shonda Rhimes also released a statement after Derek was shockingly killed off the show:

"Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character - for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our 'McDreamy.' Patrick Dempsey's performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example - happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true - of what young women should demand from modern love. His loss will be felt by all. Now, Meredith and the entire Grey's Anatomy family are about to enter uncharted territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless."
