K-Pop News Weekly Top 3: Big Bang Comeback, JYP Names New Girl Group, Idols Announce Solo Debuts

Check out the K-pop headlines that grabbed our attention this week:

Big Bang Comes Back With Self-Composed "Made" Songs

YG Entertainment's headline male idol group Big Bang released their first music in three years, kicking off a multi-month release under the title "Made." The first two songs "Loser" and "Bae Bae" were released on May 1, with music videos that gained multi-million views within the first 24 hours of release. Several of the members were involved in the creation of both songs.

The music video for "Bae Bae" came under fire due to overtly sexual innuendos, but YG Entertainment's CEO Yang Hyun Suk defended Big Bang's choice as a sign of the group's maturity. "Loser" appeared on iTunes music charts, ranking among the top 50 songs in the world.

JYP Entertainment Announces Twice

A new girl group named "Twice" will be joining JYP Entertainment's lineup after the conclusion of a survival competition show, Sixteen. The Mnet show features sixteen female JYP Entertainment trainees and candidates, all of whom are competing for the spots in the company's soon-to-debut girl group.

JYP Entertainment's CEO Park Jin Young revealed the name of the girl group on April 29, and explained that the group will be an upgraded combination of JYP Entertainment's previous girl groups, Wonder Girls and miss A. Twice will have "a natural and friendly feel" upon debut.

Female and Male Idols Announce Plans For Solo Releases

Members of multiple K-pop idol groups announced plans for solo releases, beginning with T-ara's Eunjung re-debuting under the name Elsie with the song "I'm Good" featuring K.Will. Another girl group member, Kara's member Goo Hara also revealed that she is working on making a debut as a solo artist following Kara's upcoming comeback.

Along with the women, male idol group members also planned releases. INFINITE's Sungkyu also announced a comeback, with upcoming album "27" while BEAST's Hyunseung released several sets of teasers for his first mini album, "My."
