Last month, Washington Post reporter Jessica Contrera visited Georgetown University to catch a glimpse of the college life of 2012 "Superstar K" winner Roy Kim. 

Though Kim (the son of a successful liquor company CEO) has legions of fans back in South Korea, on Georgetown's Washington DC campus, he's just another student, with the occasional rabid staker.

“I want to come here before I get used to celebrity life,” Kim said in the article posted to the newspaper's website last Friday. “If everyone treats you like a celebrity for a long time, you become full of yourself, and that’s the last thing I want to be.”

After getting accepted at Georgetown, Kim delayed his college by a year, taking the time to record an album and complete a highly successful concert tour. Though his decision to delay his exploding music career for the sake of is college education raised some eyebrows, for Kim it was a case of simple math.

"I've spent more of my life trying to get into school than trying to be a musician, so it would be a waste if I stopped now," he said.

For Kim, who also revealed his hopes to release an English album in the future, the college experience has given him a much-needed burst of anonymity. Yet, the singer admits the need to remain cautious about who he hangs around with.

"Anyone who would tell you, 'I'm friends with Roy Kim,' is probably not my real friend," he said.

Though perhaps his days as a secret K-pop celebrity in America could be numbered. Last month, Kim performed in Washington DC at the Global Citizen festival for Earth Day 2015.
