Yedang Entertainment Mulls Legal Action Against TMZ For 'Racist' EXID Coverage

Yedang Entertainment claims that recent TMZ coverage of EXID arriving in Los Angeles is "racist" and claims it has hurt the feelings of member Junghwa, reports Koreaboo.

As a result of this, the agency could possibly file legal action against the media organization.

"The video in question is racist and I feel it is extremely wrong to make fun of someone's happiness at seeing fans," said Yedang Entertainment CEO Jeon Seung Hwi in an interview with Dispatch on May 4. "We didn't even realize there were reporters present and never thought Junghwa's pronunciation would be subject to ridicule. I also watched the video with the members and Junghwa feels extremely upset."

"We plan to take action against the media in question and we plan to contact and notify them of how we feel about the incident and the possibility of legal action will be decided after we notify them," he added.

On May 2, a video popped up on YouTube which showed TMZ staff members discussing the arrival of EXID in Los Angeles for the 2015 Korea Times Music Festival. It showed EXID members speaking in front of the TMZ camera crew in English, but one TMZ staff member then began imitating the Asian accent of the girls.

The video has since gone viral with 1.2 million views, with many commenters criticizing TMZ for making fun of EXID and their ability to speak English.

"How is that funny? English is her second language and she still tried and they what? Made fun of her?" said one of the top-ranked comments to the video.

The video has even elicited responses from other Korean idols, such as American-born f(x) rapper Amber who also felt that TMZ crossed the line.

"I was going to stay quiet but I can't," said Amber on Twitter. "Seriously TMZ, not cool man. All Americans face palm at your rude and childish actions."
