Sunmi Rejoining Wonder Girls? 'Nothing Decided' Says JYP

Will one of the original members of the Wonder Girls return?

Rumors about one of Korea's legendary idol groups Wonder Girls spread on social media, resulting in a statement from JYP Entertainment regarding the group's future, and not commenting on the line-up of the group. JYP Entertainment denied the rumors of a comeback.

"Nothing has been decided," a JYP representative told Newsen on May 6.

A post on Instagram, allegedly by a relative of solo artist and former Wonder Girls member Sunmi, claimed that Sunmi will return to the currently four member group.

"There are rumors that Sunmi will rejoining Wonder Girls, but nothing has been decided," said the rep. "There has been nothing related to Wonder Girls′ comeback that was talked about within the company."

Sunmi debuted as a solo artist under JYP Entertainment in 2013 after leaving the Wonder Girls in 2010 to focus on her studies.

Despite immense popularity and attempts to break into the American music market, Wonder Girls' future remains unclear.

The girl group last made a comeback in 2012, prior to former member Sohee departing and leader Sunye getting married and having a child. JYP Entertainment says that the group has not disbanded, but is on hiatus.

In 2015, Yubin spoke to Billboard about a possible solo career, and living with Yeeun, Hyelim, and Sunmi, but made no mention of a possible Wonder Girls comeback.

Wonder Girls has seen numerous lineup changes since debuting in 2007. Former rapper HyunA left and joined Cube Entertainment, debuting with 4MINUTE, and was replaced by Yubin shortly after the group's debut. Sunmi left the group in 2010, but the quintet added Hong Kong-raised member Hyelim.
