K-Pop News Weekly Top 3: Big Bang-BTS Compete For Weekly Awards, TMZ Mocks EXID, BoA Begins Comeback Promotions

Here are the K-pop headlines that grabbed our attention this week.

TMZ Accused of Racism Due to EXID Coverage

American-based celebrity news show TMZ on TV covered EXID's arrival in Los Angeles for the group's performance at the 2015 Korea Times Music Festival, and was accused of racism by EXID's entertainment agency after a reporter mocked member Junghwa's English pronunciation. EXID's agency, Yedang Entertainment, accused TMZ on TV of being racist and initially claimed that the company would pursue legal action.

The incident prompted several prominent English-speaking K-pop stars to take to social media to raise attention to the situation, expressing disdain towards TMZ on TV's reporter's lack of tact.

Big Bang and BTS Fight For Weekly Music Show Awards

BTS came under fire twice in the past week by Big Bang fans, after the group was accused of manipulating music show award point distribution charts by buying albums and a member was seen allegedly mocking Big Bang after BTS won on an award show. Both groups made their comebacks in May and are promoting at the same time.

Big Bang won awards for "Loser" on Inkigayo and Show! Music Core,  while BTS won its first ever music show awards with the song "I Need U" on The Show, M! Countdown, and Music Bank.

Queen of K-Pop Prepares Comeback

SM Entertainment's BoA began comeback promotions for the first time in three years, with the pre-release track "Who Are You." The music video was viewed over two million times within a span of five days, prior to the release of the full album "Kiss My Lips." This will be the singer's eighth Korean studio album, and will feature various artists including Gaeko and Eddy Kim.

BoA composed and produced all twelve tracks on the album, which will be released on May 11.
