iKON Debut: Yang Hyun Suk Says Competition Doesn't Bother Them

iKON's debut is a priority for YG Entertainment CEO, Yang Hyun Suk.

YG's newest male idol group prepares to make their highly anticipated debut and are more concerned with having the right song than who they'll be going up against in the music charts.

While the company's biggest group act Big Bang continues with their promotions for recent singles "Loser" and "Bae Bae," YG Entertainment CEO, Yang Hyun Suk, is prepping for iKON's highly anticipated debut in the K-pop music scene.

Yang Hyun Suk says he is currently working with the seven members to make sure they have a single that will be perfect for their debut.

"I want to have them debut within this summer," the CEO stated to Korean media reporters on May 9. "Leader B.I and the others have around twenty songs ready, but they’re working with me to make better songs."

When it comes to competition from the other agencies, Yang Hyun Suk is not really thinking about it. “Other YG Entertainment artists except Big Bang will most likely comeback in October," he said. "We are not really paying attention to the comeback dates of other companies’ artists. The most important thing is to not have our artists’ comebacks overlap with Big Bang.”

While iKON's debut is a priority at YG Entertainment, Yang Hyun Suk knows that male group WINNER also wants to make their comeback this year. "WINNER is in a hurry to comeback too, but iKON hasn’t debuted yet," said Yang Hyun Suk. "So we are paying the most attention to their debut."

"iKON and WINNER need to be fine tuned a bit more, so we’re working on it," he added.
