Some of South Korea's biggest stars will come together to celebrate the end of Japanese colonial rule in the country.

This August 15 marks the 70th anniversary of the end of Japan's rule over the Korean peninsula and to celebrate the occasion, veteran singer Lee Seung Chul has gathered an ensemble of high-profile stars for a special liberation song.

The song, titled "The Day We Meet" will be a collaboration of some of K-pop's biggest names including members of popular boy band EXO, the latest additions to the project, as announced through Lee Seung Chul's Twitter on May 14. He appeared in a photo alongside Baekhyun, Chen, and Chanyeol commemorating the end of their recording session for the song.

“EXO- Chen, Baekhyun, Chanyeol singing ‘The Day We Meet’ Great vocals! Please look forward to it," he tweeted along with the picture.

Lee has been announcing collaborators through his social media account to drum up interest in and support for the special song in recent weeks. He previously revealed the participation of groups Girl's Day, Davichi, and Rose Motel, SISTAR members Bora, Hyorin and Soyou, INFINITE's Sunggyu and L, B1A4’s Sandeul, Jung Eun-ji of A Pink, TEEN TOP’s Niel, hip-hop duo DJ DOC, as well as soloists Kim Tae-woo Ailee, Moon Myeong Jin, In Sooni, Kim Bum Soo, ALi, Jo Young Nam, and Bada.

"The Day We Meet" will be released in time for this year's celebration of Gwangbokjeol (literally 'Restoration of Light Day'), the South Korean public holiday recognizing the end of Japanese rule. Japan ruled over the Korean peninsula from 1910 until the surrender of the Empire of Japan in 1945, bringing a close to World War II.
