EXO's 'Exodus' Sets Billboard Record For Highest Ranking Korean Boy Band

EXO's latest album, Exodus, has reached a new pinnacle of success by becoming the highest ranked K-pop male band on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart.

Upon release, Exodus began soaring through the charts to eventually reach the 90th spot, the highest-ever for male artists in Korea, reports Koreaboo.

This record-breaking feat was fueled by brisk sales for Exodus. More than 6,000 copies of the album were sold in its first week of release stateside, making that week the largest sales week ever for a K-pop act in America, according to Billboard.com contributor Jeff Benjamin, who writes for the website's K-pop column, K-Town.

Exodus also showed strong showings on other Billboard charts.

EXO's comeback title track "Call Me Baby" climbed as high as #2 in the World Digital Songs chart, while five of their other tracks such as "El Dorado" (#7) and "Exodus" (#8) populated the top 20.

Exodus has also been displaying superb staying power on the Bilboard World Album chart where it has been on the Top 10 for the past six weeks, reports KPopHerald.

Exodus clinched the #1 spot on the said chart back in April but while it has come down to the current #9, it has not plummeted as fast, only slipping two places from #7 the previous week.

The album's success comes despite a spate o negative news surrounding its Chinese members, such as Tao reportedly leaving the group and Lay reportedly suffering neck and back injuries.
