Laverne Cox Talks About Transition and “Orange Is The New Black” Season 3 Marathon As She Graces Cover of EW's First LGBT Cover In 15 Years

It's a double day celebration for Laverne Cox today. She celebrates LGBT Pride month in a big way gracing the cover of Entertainment Weekly as Lady Liberty herself for the magazine's first LGBT issue in 15 years. It drops in newsstands today at the same time that the new season of "Orange is the New Black" came out early on Netflix.

In the Laverne Cox cover story, the "Orange is the New Black" actress expressed she will go on a marathon of season three.

But on a more serious note, she shared that despite America's acceptance of her as a transgender, it's still a struggle for her.

She tells EW "she can't afford a single tabloid scandal or embarrassing paparazzi shot" due to her reputation.

Still, she takes on the challenge and honor with breeze, at a ready to correct any misconception about the transgender community. She was among the first to laud Caitlyn Jenner for her transition but Laverne Cox also found it appalling over how the media is focusing on surgery as the center of Jenner's transformation.

"I'm always disturbed when I see conversations about trans people that focus on surgery," she told EW. "But I believe Caitlyn will transcend this moment."

In the Laverne Cox cover story, she even expressed gratefulness over transforming without much public scrutiny.

"This is why I'm so grateful that I had the luxury of transitioning in private," she explained. "Because when you transition in the public eye, the transition becomes the story."

E! Online describes Laverne Cox's second glossy debut in a magazine cover as "truly stunning."

Even Laverne Cox herself is proud of her magazine cover gushing over it on Instagram, as cited by E!

"Thanks @EntertainmentWeekly for the awesome cover story featuring yours truly," she posted.

Prior to this Laverne Cox EW cover, she also graced the cover of Time and talked about the transgender acceptance in society in the cover story. She was the first transgender to grace the Time cover.
