'Inkigayo' Goes Private In Response To MERS Outbreak

Unlike MBC's Music Core Inkigayo has announced that their June 14 recording would be not open to the public.

The decision to make the show private comes in response to the MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) outbreak in Korea. Normally SBS's Inkigayo holds a live broadcast, allowing fans to attend and support their favorite performers for the week. This week, however, the show will be filmed strictly in private to avoid potentially spreading the disease. OSEN reported that even fans with reserved tickets will also not be allowed to enter the recording. Many are speculating that there will be no audience members at this week's Inkigayo.

Last week Music Core announced that their broadcast would remain public but required all attendees to wear masks and continued to remain open to the public for this week.

Inkigayo is not the only program switching to private broadcast. Like them, KBS's Gayo Stage will also be recorded without an audience. Other shows, however, have chosen to either postpone or cancel their scheduled recordings, OSEN reports. Both Gag Concert and JTBC's Off to School have been postponed for the time being.

Thus far, ten people have died from the disease, more than 120 are still infected, and around 3,800 remain in quarantine.
