Women Hid Boy for 8 Years; Convicted And Face Life In Prison

Two women in East Texas hid a boy for 8 years and were convicted of kidnapping on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The mother and daughter were convicted of kidnapping the 8-month-old and hiding him for 8 years. The jury only spent two hours deliberating before giving the verdict after a four-day trial.

In 2004, Krystle Tanner and her mother Gloria Walker took the infant from his Houston, Texas apartment while babysitting.

Tanner and her mother moved from home to home throughout Texas, kept the child out of school, and changed his name to avoid detection. Still, Walker insisted that she and her daughter did nothing wrong.

Tanner gave birth to a boy in 2010, and in April her newborn tested positive for marijuana in his system, which sparked the investigation that found the missing boy.

The women were arrested in March 2012.

The defense claimed that the boy's mother had sold the boy to Tanner and Walker before filing the missing persons report.

However, the boy's mother claimed that it was a kidnapping and that she never gave her son to Tanner or made an agreement related to his custody.

Tanner was found guilty of kidnapping the child, Miguel Morin, in 2004 and reckless injury to a child. Walker was found guilty of injury of a child.

Both women face up to 20 years in prison, with Walker potentially facing life in jail.

The boy was placed in foster care before moving into a home with his four siblings. He has been told of his identity and is receiving therapy.
