Big Bang And 'Inkigayo' Producers Could Be At Odds

Big Bang may have solved their issues with KBS, but they are now at the center of controversies involving SBS' "Inkigayo." Big Bang did not appear or perform on the June 14 episode of "Inkigayo" and the announced online.

An article published by the Korean outlet TV Report provided further explanation of the issue. "Inkigayo" finished without the number one [winner] announcement," said TV Report writer Ku Ming. "Inkigayo" recorded live, but privately as a precaution to prevent the spread of MERS."

Supporters of Big Bang have alleged that the group was banned from the show, due to the absence of G-Dragon and T.O.P. "Inkigayo" may have negatively responded to their absence because Big Bang was the #1 group of the week. G-Dragon and T.O.P were allegedly unable to film the show, due to scheduling conflicts caused by a music video shoot. Officials from YG Entertainment have yet to issue a statement regarding the rumors.

The unprecedented move to air "Inkigayo" without announcing a winner, created buzz within Korean media, who speculated that SBS is also to escalating discontent between fans of EXO and Big Bang. Heated arguments have ensued between supporters of both groups, with some Big Bang supporters alleging that the voting for "Inkigayo" champions has been rigged. Sports Donga cited this conflict as a potential motive for the private taping. "This episode received particular attention because it was going to be a showdown between EXO and Big Bang," said Project Hong, a writer for Sports Donga. "The two groups recently released new songs and have been side-by-side with voting, which has caused controversy regarding online voting, upsetting fans."

Is Plus published an article originally featured on Daily Sports, which analyzed the situation. "Inkigayo" is likely to receive further protests [from fans] because it did not provide any notice of the private tapings," said writer Hwang Mihyun

Big Bang was missing from the taping, but Lee Seung Gi, Melody Day and MBLAQ were among the artists who performed for the June 14 episode.

The perplexing situation is troubling, as Big Bang recently returned shows aired by KBS, including "Music Bank" and "Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook." The 5-member boy band is currently promoting their single release, "A," which is included in the "MADE" series.
