Amanda Knox Not Fully Free Despite Murder Case Acquittal; Meredith Kercher’s Roommate Charged Of Slandering Police

The legal troubles for Amanda Knox are far from over as the American was charge with slandering the police following her acquittal from the Meredith Kercher murder case.

Apparently, the Seattle native, who earlier announced her engagement to Colin Sutherland, was charged for lying in her testimony that she was coerced by the police into pinning down the murder of Meredith Kercher to a Congolese bar owner.

The trial opened in Milan on Wednesday and Amanda Knox isn't expected to attend, said the UK's Independent.

Lawyer Carlo Dalla Vedova, however, said that his client is not worried about the case. He also said the statute of limitations will take effect in October 2016.

The Congolese bar owner, Partick Lumumba, previously told the Observer that Amanda Knox was acquitted from the Meredith Kercher murder case because she was American and rich.

"This is not good for justice, I think it shows the power available for rich people, she's American and rich. For a country like Italy this is not good. I think there were diplomatic problems with the US and it makes things difficult with the US so they let her free.

He added, "Amanda is free because she is American, but Americans are human like everybody."

Lumumba spent two weeks in jail after he was dragged into Meredith Kercher's murder case when Amanda Knox accused him of killing her.

Amanda Knox's former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito will also be back in court in May 2016 as he faces a defamation charge over his claims in his book, "Honor Bound."

According to the Examiner, Raffaele Sollecito, her co-accused in the Meredith Kercher murder trial, will be tried in the Tuscan capital for insulting the police and the Italian prosecutor Giuliano Mignini.

"While provisionally freed during the seven years that they appealed their murder convictions, Knox and Sollecito each penned memoirs rehashing their experiences," it said. "Publishers dished out $4 million and $1 million respectively for their novels."
