One Direction is scheduled to perform, along with Justin Timberlake and Mumford & Sons, at the Brit Awards on Wednesday night.

In addition to performing, the world-famous boy band is also nominated for a new award category honoring global success. Aside from One Direction, nominees for the category include Mumford & Sons and Adele.

Last year, Adele was jilted when organizers cut her off mid-speech after she won two prizes. This year, Adele is nominated for her single "Skyfall".

Regarding the slight to Adele, Brit Award Chairman David Joseph told The Guardian, ""How can you take an artist who has made the biggest cultural impact musically this country has seen globally for some time and cut her off in the middle of her speech?"

Joseph promised that the mistake will be remedied during this year's award ceremony.

Mumford & Sons, a major success in recent years, lead the nominations for the Brit awards, with three. Emili Sande and Alt-J also have three nominations apiece.

The late Amy Winehouse has been nominated for best British female artist, thanks to her posthumous album "Lioness: Hidden Treasures". Winehouse died in July of 2011 due to accidental alcohol poisoning.

In the Best Live Act category, the Rolling Stones are the favorites to win, up against Coldplay, Mumford & Sons and The Vaccines.

International nominees include Alicia Keys, Rihanna, fun., the Black Keys, and Bruce Springsteen.

Taylor Swift is planning on attending the Brit Awards, posing a problem for event organizers. The organizers plan on keeping Harry Styles of One Direction apart from his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift during the ceremony.

The two recently split up after a few months of dating. Reports have claimed that Styles and Swift changed their rehearsal times for the Brit Awards in order to remain apart before the show.

An anonymous 'insider' told Metro, "No-one wants anything awkward to happen. Taylor and Harry are being kept well apart. Harry is down a different corridor, with an extra-large room for himself and all the other [One Direction] lads."

The Brit Awards will air tonight, on Feb. 20. Winners are chosen by music artists, critics, and industry figures, with several awards decided by popular vote.
