Higgs Boson Particle That Could Doom The Universe To Extinction Discovered By Swiss Scientists: 'You Won't Actually See It' Scientist Says [PHOTO]

Swiss physicists believe they have uncovered the famed Higgs boson particle that could doom the universe to extinction billions of years from now.

The Higgs boson particle was first discovered back in July at the world's largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva, according to LiveScience.

After months of study, theoretical physicist Joseph Lykken, told the American Association for the Advancement of Science at the group's annual meeting at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill. on Monday, that he believes he and a team of physicists believe they have actually discovered the Higgs boson particle.

According to Lykken, the particle that dooms the universe contains the calculation that is the genesis for everything to end in a burst of light.

"This calculation tells you that many tens of billions of years from now there'll be a catastrophe," he said.

Regarding how the Higgs boson particle would end the universe, Lykken added: "You won't actually see it, because it will come at you at the speed of light. So in that sense, don't worry."

The Higgs boson particle is the atomic particle form of an energy field scientists believe pervades the universe called the Higgs field. It is believed to be what gives particles mass.

"It may be the universe we live in is inherently unstable, and at some point billions of years from now it's all going to get wiped out," Lykken said.
