104 Year Old Woman Lies About Age To Use Facebook; Has Been 99 For 5 Years

A 104 year-old Michigan woman lies about her age in order to use the social media website Facebook.

Marguerite Joseph, the centenarian, is unable to list her true age on the popular site.

Joseph's granddaughter, Gail Marlow, claims that when she tries inputting her grandmother's birth year as 1908, Facebook automatically changes the year to 1928.

As a result, for the past two years the Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan resident has remained 99 years old on her online profile.

The 104-year-old woman is legally blind and hard of hearing, but her granddaughter diligently responds to all of Joseph's Facebook messages.

Marlow told WDIV-TV that she would "love to see" her grandmother's real age posted on the popular social media site. She says that this is a significant "glitch in the system."

Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes told the Associated Press that the company is working to allow the registration of pre-1910 birth years.

Facebook has also apologized for the problem.

The 104 year-old woman plans to continue using Facebook to keep in touch with her friends and family.

But until Facebook fixes the glitch, Johnson must continue to lie about her age and will remain 99, at least online.
