Ashley Judd Senate Bid: Judd Meets With DSCC To Discuss Her Possible Senate Race

Ashley Judd met with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) on Feb. 20 for a private talk in Washington, sources say, to discuss her possible run for Senate.

The DSCC plays a major role in recruiting for the Democratic Party, as well as handling campaign strategy and fundraising.

Rumors have been circulating for months that Judd will run for a Democratic Senate seat representing her home state of Kentucky.

The Wednesday meeting was not the first time that Judd has met with Democratic officials to discuss the Senate issue; just last week Ashley Judd spoke with Kentucky Rep. John Yarmuth and Louisville Mayor Greg Fisher.

At that time, an anonymous source stated that Judd had not yet come to a decision about running for Senate. The source claimed, "[She is] meeting with people all over the state."

However, Judd's publicist, Cara Tripicchio, has claimed that Judd was considering the bid for Senate. Judd is expected to publicly declare her intentions on May 6, Derby Day.

Tripicchio said, "A definitive decision either way has not been made yet. Of course, Ashley remains flattered and honored by the continued interest and support that is being extended. Beyond that, I have no further updates to provide to you at this time."

If the 44-year-old Hollywood actress does indeed decide to pursue a seat in the Senate, she would be running against incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell.

McConnell is known for his "brutal campaign tactics", and some fear that the liberal performer won't be able to withstand the incumbent's attacks, let alone reach the residents of a mostly conservative Republican state.

McConnell has been serving in the Kentucky Senate since 1985. He is the longest serving senator in Kentucky history, and is expected to garner strong support in his home state.

An attack ad has already been released addressing Hollywood connections. Starpulse also claims that McConnell has run internal polling to calculate his odds against Judd.

If Ashley Judd does decide to run for Senate and wins, she would join the ranks of other Hollywood stars-turned-politicians like Minnesota's Al Franken and California's Arnold Schwarzenegger.
