Laura Bush Gay Marriage; Requests to be Removed from Ad Campaign [VIDEO]

The former first lady Laura Bush is asking to be removed from a new pro-gay marriage national advertising campaign.

As reported Wednesday, Respect for Marriage Coalition included Bush's support of gay marriage in its ad, along with clips from President Obama, former secretary of state Colin Powell, and Dick Cheney, former vice president to George W. Bush.

Anne MacDonald, the former first lady's spokeswoman said, Laura Bush "did not approve of her inclusion in this advertisement nor is she associated with the group that made the ad in any way."

"When she became aware of the advertisement last night, we requested that the group remove her from it," MacDonald said.

The group's new ad will feature a Republican military veteran. It will begin airing them after Friday and stop featuring Bush.

The comment that was used for Bush was from a 2010 CNN interview where she comes out in support of gay marriage rights. The commercial aired yesterday on CNN however was replaced by another spot Thursday at the request of the advertiser.

Bush is seen in the clip speaking with Larry King during a 2010 CNN interview, which she says, "When couples are committed to each other and love each other then they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has."

Respect for Marriage Coalition issued a statement stating, "We used public comments for this ad from American leaders who have expressed support for civil marriage."

The group added, "We appreciate Mrs. Bush's previous comments but are sorry she didn't want to be included in an ad. The ad launched a public education campaign that will now move to new and different voices that reflect the depth and breadth of our support."
