Fishermen found two sisters on the side of the road after mother was killed in a vehicle accident.

Driving in Oregon, two fishermen noticed something different about the woods on the side of the road.

They noticed a gash in one of the trees.

Kraai McClur and Scott Beutler are frequent drivers on State Highway 402, which was where they felt it in their guts that something was wrong.

They called the cops to only find out there wasn't any reports of any accidents in the area.

Beutler went in the woods, and then signaled for McClur to call the authorities. That's when they found the two little girls, scared.

"They could say their names but were totally in shock," McClure said to the Associated Press.

The youngest sister was trapped in the vehicle, only to be rescued by her older sister, who is four-years-old.

"She saved her," McClure said."She was sharp enough. I don't know how she did it or anything else, but something was watching over those little girls." It was amazing that the little 4-year-old - I have a little 4-year-old, too, she's almost 5 - was able to get her little sister out and do that," he added. "It just blows my mind that she could do that in that situation. I don't know if she waited until morning, when they could see, but, you know, it just makes me want to cry."

Authorities said they must have been out there for a few hours, warming up under a blanket before the possibility of hypothermia hits, which could have killed them.

The crash was a few hundred feet off the road, which made it even harder for the fishermen to notice.

The Washington State Patrol said the girls' mother, 26-year-old Jessica Rath of Astoria, Oregon, probably was asleep when she veered off the road and struck the tree shortly after midnight. She died at the scene.

Rath was sentenced to ten days in jail on January 26 for heroin possession and third-degree theft.

The father of the children did not comment.
