National Margarita Day, Celebrate with Simple Treat

Today is National Margarita Day. The most popular tequila-based cocktail in America is easy to make. The classic version of the drink is made with only three ingredients, tequila, lime juice and Cointreau or triple sec. All the ingredients are served in a chilled glass with salt around the rim.

"National Margarita Day has become a fun tradition at the original Distrito in Philadelphia, and we're thrilled to bring the party to Revel for the first time this year," says Chef Jose Garces Distrito Cantina. "This year's specials are even more exciting because of the opportunity to give something back to the community while enjoying a memorably delicious margarita."

For the best ingredient it's difficult to choose like the tequila, with so many brands and types one can become lost in their choice. The distilled beverage has three main types known as blanco, reposado and anejo. Each with their own distinct personality based on how long its been aged. Blanco, also referred as silver tequila isn't aged at all. Reposado is aged in wood barrels for a minimum of two months however less than a year and anejo at least a year in oak barrels.

Next is the lime juice best is of course freshly squeezed. Put the lime in the microwave for five seconds then roll them around on the cutting board while pushing them down with you palm to get their juices rolling.

If you wish, you may stop here or you can add some triple sec, an orange liqueur. Cointreau and Grand Marnier are both triple secs however you can substitute for cheaper versions.

However you drink your margaritas, enjoy it as it has even its own day on the calendar.
