Powerball Winners Give Back to Hometown in Missouri, ‘Very Conservative People’

Missouri Powerball lottery winner Mark Hill, even after winning half of the biggest jackpot in U.S. history still meets friends for morning coffee at local convenience store.

The Camaro sports car Hill had considered buying with his winnings had instead brought a practical pick-up truck instead.

For Mark and Cindy Hill though they won half of a $587 million Powerball jackpot in November, which after taxes leaves them with $136.6 million, didn't squander their fortunes like most lottery winners.

"They are very conservative people," said Walt Stubbs, a friend and former high school classmate of the Hills. "They are doing some really nice things for the community and they've taken care of their family."

The couple offers their money to civic projects in their hometown of Camden point, Missouri while still living in the same area Dearborn, Missouri as they did before.

Even paying for a new fire station and ball field and gave the town more than $50,000 for a new sewage treatment plant, Mayor Kevin Boydston said.

"I've said all along that these lottery winnings could not have gone to a better couple," Boydston said. "They are giving back to the community, just like they said they would."

The couple in their early 50s stated to reporters during a news conference after winning the lottery that they plan to stay in the area and give a lot of the money away.
