2013 Oscars Results: Anne Hathaway Wins Best Supporting Actress Academy Award For 'Les Miserables'

Anne Hathaway wins Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Les Miserables."

Anne Hathaway was the favorite to win, with numerous publications like ‘Carpetbagger’ of The New York Times predicting her win. Even Nate Silver, made famous by his accurate prediction of the 2012 Presidential Elections, called the win for Anne Hathaway.

Hathaway was competing against Amy Adams for "The Master," Sally Field for "Lincoln," Helen Hunt for "The Sessions," and Jacki Weaver for "Silver Linings Playbook" in the same category.

Anne Hathaway played Fantine in Les Miserables, which came out in December of 2012. She was criticized for losing an ‘unhealthy’ amount of weight for the role. The film portrays several people during the French Revolution, and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Hugh Jackman of the same film was nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role Academy Award for his portrayal of Jean Valjean.

Hathaway was seen in a dress by Prada and diamond jewelry by Tiffany’s earlier on the Red Carpet.

In her Red Carpet interview with Kristin Chenoweth, Hathaway commented, “losing all the weight wasn’t that hard.” Hathaway found cutting her hair for the role more difficult than losing weight.

This is Anne Hathaway’s first Academy Award.

She said during her award speech, “It came true."
