Eat Like A K-Pop Star: Pop Popcorn With 2NE1's CL

Welcome to this week's 'Eat Like a K-pop Star.' It's the weekly series where we showcase a delicious Korean specialty or something we've seen a K-pop star chowing down on lately and show you how to get or create some food of your own.

We have CL to thank for this week's cravings. The star posted a photo of her with a big bucket of popcorn, and the savory snack has never looked so good.

If you're hungry for your own bucket, you can always go see a movie or pop a microwave bag of it. But we all know the more delicious route is stovetop popcorn. It's easy, mouth-watering, and a total crowd pleaser. And we're going to tell you exactly how to make a perfect batch.

Start with a big, flat bottomed pot with a lid. Heat it over high heat and let it get nice a hot, for about a minute or so.

Then, pour in a thin layer of vegetable or canola oil - just enough to cover the bottom of the pot. Let it get nice and hot as well, until it glimmers a little and just before it starts forming tiny bubbles.

Next, quickly pour in the kernels. Do just enough to cover the bottom of the pot and then a little more - you don't want your oil to show, so make sure there's enough to cover that. If you're using a large pot, this is probably going to be about ¾ cup of kernels.

Now comes the important part - the shaking. Cover your kernels and give the kernels some good shakes as close to the heat as you feel safe doing. A good rule of thumb is 5 seconds shake, 10 seconds rest. Make sure they're nice and vigorous shakes.

As soon as you hear the first sound of a pop, let the popcorn sit atop the heat and pop away. As the popping gets more intense, you can slowly turn off the heat source so that it minimizes as the popping stops.

Now...pour it into a bowl, and add your toppings. Straight from the pot is healthy and yummy, but toppings are truly the key to a game changing bowl of popcorn. Here are some of the best:

Melted Butter and (Specialty) Salt

Go classic or go home. Melt some unsalted butter in the microwave, gently pour it on top, and then sprinkle some salt over everything and toss. It could be regular sea salt, it could be truffle salt, it could be pink Himalayan salt. Whatever it is, it's going to be delicious.

Curry Powder, Sea Salt, and a splash of Lime

This is a healthy and fiery set of toppings that, when paired with a margarita or mango smoothie, will transport you from your couch to the beach.

Butter, Ranch Powder, and Chives

This is like the fresh Cool Ranch Dorito version of popcorn. Toss some butter, the flavor packet for homemade ranch dressing, and some freshly chopped chives with the popcorn and you have yourself a down home picnic bowl of popcorn.

Cheese Popcorn

You can never go wrong with cheese. Before you make your popcorn, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and start shredding a few different cheeses. Sharp and hard cheeses are your best bet - a mix of sharp cheddar, asiago, and pecorino is a winning combo. When your popcorn is done, spread it on a baking sheet, sprinkle the shredded cheese and a little salt on top, and bake for about 3 minutes. It's a melty, salty delight.
