Michelle Obama Image Altered for Iran Viewers at the Oscars [PHOTO]

Michelle Obama's photograph of presenting an award at the Academy Awards was altered by Iranian news agency, Fars.

Viewers were surprised when Obama appeared live from the White House to present the Best Picture Sunday night. She was seen in sleeveless sliver gown by designer Naeem Khan.

Although the dress is considered modest by American standards it seems the exposed shoulders and low neckline, violated the codes of modesty enforced throughout Muslim countries.

The Iran news Fars altered Obama's dress by covering her shoulders and raising the neckline to completely cover her chest.

"We've persistently seen Iranian news agencies, whether they're partially or fully state-run, use fabrication and use other means to distort images," says Patrick Ventrell, the deputy State Department spokesperson.

"It's something that we've seen in the past here in this department. We've seen photos manipulated. We've seen official statements manipulated. So there would be nothing new. It wouldn't surprise me."
