Gillian Anderson Pilot To Be Shot For NBC: "X-Files" Star To Play Mother Of Evil Puppeteer Abductee According To Reports, Will She Return To U.S. Television?

Gillian Anderson will appear in a pilot for NBC as a powerful CEO whose daughter is abducted by an evil puppeteer, according to UPI.

The pilot follows Anderson's several episode arc on the NBC show "Hannibal." If the "X-Files" star's pilot is picked up, it would be her first starring role on U.S. television since the "X-Files" ended in 2002.

Anderson played F.B.I. Special Agent Dana Scully to David Duchovny's Special Agent Fox Mulder on "The X-Files" as the two searched for interplanetary space pilots.

The popular Fox television program also prompted two feature films, 1998's "The X-Files" and the 2008 sequel, "The X-Files: Fight the Future."

Since then, Anderson has mostly stayed off U.S. programs in the British television shows "Bleak House," "Great Expectations" and "The Fall."

Back in December, the British actress explained the celebrity blog ImNotObsessed.com why she speaks with two different accents-British and American.

"Even on the phone my accent will change," Gillian explained. "Part of me wishes I could control it but I can't. I just slip into one or the other. When I moved to the States I tried to cling on to my British accent because it made me different."

The Anderson pilot will be written and executive produced by Rand Ravich ("Life"), and is reported to depict a national conspiracy with roots in Washington, D.C.

The plot of Anderson's puppeteer-battling high-powered protagonist seems intriguing to say the least, but reports of what the show is actually about have differed.

Deadline claims the show is the kidnapped girl is not the Gillian Anderson character's daughter, but her niece.

Although the way pilot season goes, perhaps both reports are true.
