Apple's iPhone 5S Release Date Slated for June, Analysts Say

The buzz around the rumor mill about Apple's expected iPhone 5s release date has consumers excitedly asking themselves if they can wait until the summer to upgrade their current phones.  Apple reportedly hired a new team of engineers to improve security and Siri on the iPhone 5s before they officially announce the release date, however most analysts say we can expect the new, affordable iPhone in June.

In his report last month, Jefferies analyst Peter Misek says his supply chain checks estimate the iPhone 5s release date to be in June with production likely to begin in March.  Misek's claim supports an early January report by Topeka analyst Brian White who anticipated an early summer release date for the new iPhone 5s with production beginning in March or April.

A June release fits well within the timeline for many current and potential future iPhone users.  The Verizon release of the iPhone 4 in February 2011 means many customers are soon due to update their phones following their current two-year contracts.  Furthermore, T-Mobile customers are anxiously awaiting the iPhone release on their network sometime this year.  Apple and T-Mobile have not yet confirmed that the iPhone 5s release date will coincide with the official T-Mobile iPhone, however it does seem likely.

In addition to the low-cost iPhone 5s, Apple is also expected to release the iPhone 6 this year, giving customers a choice among several options.  This is similar to what we saw with the simultaneous release of the iPad 4 and iPad mini last fall.  Some biz-tech analysts see this as Apple's attempt to widen their target market.

In the market, consumers will, more often than not, choose an Apple device, but the high price tags cause many to search for cheaper alternatives.  Especially in the new, expanding markets of India and China, the extremely affordable iPhone 5s will likely attract a whole slew of new customers.  In other developing parts of the world, this summer's expected iPhone 5s release date means affordable access to the highly coveted Apple products.  The 5s will likely start at around $199, while the upgraded iPhone 6 is expected to be released for the same price and the previous iPhone.

The iPhone 5s will likely include other appealing features, such as an array of color choices.  Rumors also hint that consumers can expect a better battery life.

It has been suggested that the iPhone 5S will feature a Sharp IGZO display which uses new technology to provide an enhanced touch screen experience and better management of battery power.  The screen is one of the biggest battery zappers on smartphones, so a more efficient display could definitely help the iPhone 5s battery last longer than the previous models.
