‘The Vampire Diaries’ Cast To Introduce Its First Same-Sex Vampire Couple; Exec Wants Elena Gilbert To ‘Come Back One Day’

It has been confirmed that "The Vampire Diaries" cast would welcome its first same-sex vampire couple for the series' seventh season.

TV Line reports that the lesbian vampires have been keeping their romance a secret for more than a century. Their names will be Nora and Mary Louise. The ladies reportedly tend to be protective of each other and that whoever messes with them will face unimaginable consequences.

The couple allegedly possesses "murderous tendencies."

"The Vampire Diaries" cast returns on television on October 8 sans Nina Dobrev. The brunette beauty left the show after six years for she wanted to expand her horizons.

As fans mourned Elena Gilbert's exit from the show, executive producer Caroline Dries previously revealed to TV Line that it was the perfect ending for the show's leading lady.

"We knew we didn't want to kill Elena because we do want her to come back one day, maybe in the series finale," she said. "And we didn't want her to walk off into the sunset and get a job somewhere because that felt fake."

"We thought, 'What could she do that proves to her friends and to the viewers who she is as a person?' And of course she would make a sacrifice so her best friend could live out the rest of her life."

She added of the "The Vampire Diaries" cast's fate, "We thought it was fitting that, at the end of the day, after all these sacrifices made on her behalf, she takes the bullet for her friend and goes out Sleeping Beauty-style."

Julie Plec, also an executive producer, previously admitted in a KCRW podcast that her team tried to persuade the Canadian beauty to change her decision. The team even presented the great plans which they crafted for Dobrev's character.

However, Nina Dobrev insisted that she only signed up for six years and that she's ready to "move on and spread her wings."
