Dog Shoots Its Owner; Not The First Time He 'Accidentally' Kicks Gun

A Florida man is recovering after his dog shot him in the leg. Gregory Dale Lanier was driving in his truck with his dog in the next seat. Between the two was Lanier's loaded gun.

The dog accidently kicked the gun, set it off and sent a bullet flying into Lanier's leg.

Police investigated and determined the incident to be an accident. If it weren't how would we know?

Lanier told police he didn't think the gun was loaded. Maybe Fido did it himself, dogs can be so crafty.

Comments posted on message boards make light of the accident. American in Switzerland posted, "If only the owner wasn't taking him to the vet to be neutered this could have been avoided."

Reanderson2133 writes, "Yeah, that will learn ya" said the dog "when I want a treat you will give it to me."

There is a saying among journalists "If a dog bites a man it's not news, if a man bites a dog then that's news." So what do they say when a dog shots a man? We may have to come up with a saying for it sooner than you think.

Apparently this is a growing trend for mans best friend. Lanier's is not the first dog to take a shot at its owner.

In September of 2012 a Frenchman was shot by his dog while on a hunting trip. The Bassett hound jumped up and caught the trigger of the mans gun. The man was hit in the hand and had to have it amputated.

In 2011 a dog accidentally shot a Utah man in the buttocks. Gundogmag.com reports that while duck hunting in a small boat, the hunter climbed out to retrieve decoys he tossed in the water.

His dog got up and stepped onto the man's shotgun, it discharged and shot the man in his backside.

Anybody remember that 2001 Warner Brothers movie "Cats and Dogs"? You know the one where all the dogs of the world were really secrete agents. Maybe that is something we need to keep in mind.
