Budweiser Lawsuit for Watering Down Beers in 3 States, Customers Cheated [VIDEO]

Beer drinkers are accusing Anheuser-Busch of watering down its beers and other alcoholic beverages to boost profits on Tuesday.

The lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania, California and New Jersey claims consumers were cheated out of the alcohol content stated on labels seeking millions in damages.

The lawsuits accuse the alcohol content is mislabeled on the brands Budweiser, Michelob, Michelob Ultra, Hurricane High Gravity Lager, King Cobra, Busch Ice, Natural Ice, Bud Ice, Bud Light Platinum and Bud Light Lime.

Lead lawyer Josh Boxer of San Rafael, California shared the suits are not basing their claims on information gained from independent testing of Anheuser-Busch products in stores.

"We learned about the mislabeling from a number of former employees of AB (Anheuser-Busch) at breweries throughout the United States," Boxer said. "And some high-level guys at the brewery level all told us that as a matter of AB corporate policy, these target brands are watered down."

According to Boxer there will be about a dozen lawsuits in total, asking the judge to designate their legal challenges as a class-action suit. Each are seeking at least $5 million in damages.

Anheuser-Busch dismissed the claims as groundless, according to Peter Kramer the company's vice president of brewing and supply.

"Our beers are in full compliance with all alcohol labeling laws," Kraemer said in a statement. "We proudly adhere to the highest standards in brewing our beers, which have made them the best-selling in the U.S. and the world."

The suit alleged, the company has sophisticated equipment that measures the alcohol content through the brewing process that is precisely monitored. However after the merger, the company increasing chose to dilute its popular brands of beer.

"AB (Anheuser-Busch) never intends for the malt beverage to possess the amount of alcohol that is stated on the label. As a result, AB's customers are overcharged for watered-down beer and AB is unjustly enriched by the additional volume it can sell," the lawsuit said.
