A 120 mph chase in L.A. created a huge public safety issue and ended in the arrest of one woman reportedly driving the Lexus ES400 responsible on Tuesday, Feb. 26.

Two burglary suspects avoided police arrest by speeding through California freeways at speeds up to 120 mph. The chase down resulted in a slew of narrowly avoided collisions on freeways from San Bernadino to South Los Angeles.

The 120 mph chase in L.A. ended in one arrest of a woman who police say was a passenger at times. The woman reportedly took over evading police at dangerously high speeds when the original male driver fled on foot.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the woman led police on a chase before her getaway was stopped by a collision.

"Shortly before 1:00 pm the male driver bolted from the car and, with a cellphone held to his ear, appeared to ran into an apartment complex near the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The woman who had been the passenger jumped into the driver's seat and drove off, leading officers on a brief chase that ended when she appeared to hit another vehicle," the paper reported.

The report continued to state that the 120 mph L.A. chase spanned the 71, 91, 60, 710, 105, and 110 freeways as the car wove in and out of traffic.

Throughout the chase, police officers say that many witnesses saw near-misses of pedestrians, with some children visibly endangered by the speeding car.

The Times reported, "pedestrians included a boy on a skateboard, a couple wheeling a baby across the street and a little girl pulled out of the way at the last minute by a woman," being among those nearly hit by the speeding car.

After arresting the car's female passenger and sometimes-driver, authorities are still searching for the male driver who began the 120 mph car chase.

It is unclear what charge the woman arrested in the 120 mph L.A. chase will face as of yet.
