VIXX's Ken Talks About His Challenges On Stage For The Musical 'Chess'

VIXX's Ken was sweet and colorful in the July issue of Ceci. In the pictorial, the star posed with collectable figurines, bags of junk food and toys while modeling apparel by the likes of UNIQLO, Saint James and Adidas Originals.

During the accompanying interview, Ken, whose given name is Lee Jae Hwan, revealed his thoughts on his first musical challenge. The idol will play the role of chess player Anatoly in the Seoul production of the musical Chess. "I'm really happy to be on such a big stage for my first musical," he said. "On stage, the vocal, musical and performance tone are different. I thought adapting would be hard. But the ensemble progressed quickly with practice."

The star also described the musical's dramatic back story. He explained, "My character is living during the Cold War confrontation between the United States and Russia. Anatoly is a chess player representing Russia that is participating in the International Chess Championship."

He continued, "Anatoly lived under communism, when the people acted as stiff as soldiers. Almost like robots. They were oppressed, suffered and did not have the freedom to live the lives they wanted."

When asked about the themes of the play, Ken stated, "Betrayal, ambition, and chess." He quickly added, "But in fact, as a whole, it's about political oppression, [and] an individual's desire and love..."

Recently, Ken, 2AM's Jo Kwon and B1A4's CNU posed together for the June issue of High Cut. All three will play the role of Anatoly during the production's run.
