Editor's Pick: D.Holic Mix Jazz, Classical, Bounce To Create 1 Of The Summer's Most Unique Jams Yet On 'Chewy' [VIDEO]

One reason K-pop has made a big splash outside of South Korea's borders in recent years has undeniably been the Hallyu sound's eclectic blend of musical styles.

And if exciting new blends of genres are what you're looking for, you'd be hard-pressed to find a song throwing a wider variety into the same proverbial pot than "Chewy," the latest single from the five-member K-pop girl group D.Holic, released on Wednesday.

With their cover girl looks and slick, mainstream image, it is almost disarming how deep the level of raw talent there is in this band, who debuted back in October with the equally-exciting "I Don't Know." From authentically badass rapping to relaxed vocal performances turning on a dime from sunny and soothing to high-energy hooks, in under three and a half minutes, D.Holic prove to the uninitiated that they can do just about anything.

And that is not just a testament to the deep vocal bench in this band.

The reason the members of D.Holic are able to demonstrate their diverse talents on "Chewy" is the flawless production for a song that remains irresistibly danceable while merging diverse idiomatic elements like the horn lines of 1940s bop and the quantized quarter note clapping of 2000s New Orleans bounce, yet somehow while also maintaining strong ties to the spirit, structure and 1990s house music breakdowns of the most famous K-pop song in history, Psy's "Gangnam Style."

Most serious South Korean pop music fans can probably list a litany of reasons why D.Holic will never top the charts or be as important to them as their beloved favorite girl group or boy band.

But if this band were given the kind of attention they deserve, it sure would make the K-pop charts a lot more fun and a lot more funky.
