Idols Starring In Musical ‘Isn't Easy’ Wonder Girls Yenny Shares

Idol group members starring in musical is a hot trend nowadays.  Wonder Girls Yeeun (Yenny) who has started her personal activities recently is starring alongside other heavyweight names in Kpop with Super Junior Kyuhyun, SNSD Jessica and Sunny, SHINEe Key, 2AM Changmin, ZE:A DongJun, and A-Pink Jung Eun Ji. With such a powerhouse cast, it definitely gives a lot of pressure to do their best performance in the musical.  The Wonder Girls member reveals that while the atmosphere during rehearsals is collaborative and all of them are able to ask for help from their seniors, there are quite a number of challenges in tackling a role in musical.

First, there is pressure to sound similar with each other, especially in cases wherein multiple idols share one role.  In Yenny's case, she stars as Lady Constance Bonacieux together with J-Min.  And this makes it challenging because comparisons especially on similarities or differences in sound and execution cannot be avoided.  Yenny also states that musical is not just about singing, as the techniques are different.  In pop songs, similar to the genre for Wonder Girls, the tune is catchy and fast, while in musical it is much more articulated.  Vocalization is also very different.   As an idol, it is often fine even if singing softly like in whispers, but in musical, even whisper sounds need to be amplified so the audience can hear and relate to the scene.

Talented idol group members are definitely making inroads to the musical stage, and because of this the audience can sometimes think they got it easy.  But truthfully, rehearsing for a musical is like training all over again.   They work hard so they can do very well on stage.  Even with their busy schedules, idols starring in musicals need to know to juggle and make time for practice.  Musical is definitely something that needs lots of practice, and because of this, idols who want to star in musicals should definitely find the best opportunity to start it.   The amount of energy and commitment required for musicals is no joke.

Starring in "Three Musketeers" is definitely a welcome change for Yeeun, who finally got the opportunity to be involved in such a prime experience.  She says it's not really only about Wonder Girls now pursuing individual activities after Sunye's marriage, but really about something where they do their best to show a new look and to fill in the gaps by learning new things.  It will be an added bonus if idols in musicals can get to perform without comparison, instead to be received well and with genuine acceptance.  Being an idol is already tough as it is with the hectic schedule, being in a musical is an even more tedious load, which makes those idols who are able to juggle both really admirable.
