Indie Band Hyukoh Crush Top Idol Groups On Korean Music Charts With 'Comes And Goes'

One indie band in South Korea flew up the Korean music charts.

The Korean indie band Hyukoh overtook top K-pop acts and achieved first place on nearly every South Korean music chart on July 13. Hyukoh competed for the top spot with idol groups Girls' Generation, Big Bang, INFINITE, SISTAR, Got7 and hip hop artist Crush.

Hyukoh's "Comes and Goes" was released on May 27, but only climbed to the top of music charts after appearing on Korea's most-viewed variety show, "Infinite Challenge."

According to the Korean iChart, which keeps track of rankings on multiple music websites, Hyukoh appeared in the number one spot on Melon, Bugs, olleh, Soribada, Genie, Naver, and Monkey3's daily music charts.

"Comes and Goes" only did not top Mnet's daily chart, where it appeared in the number two spot. The top spot was claimed by Jung Seung Hwan's "The Time We Were Not In Love," which was featured in the SBS drama of the same name.

Other songs by Hyukoh, including "Hooka" and "Wi-ing Wi-ing" appeared in the top 10 spots on various Korean music charts, competing with songs by the aforementioned top Korean idols.

Hyukoh was formed in Honda in 2014, and gained immense success as an indie band in South Korea. The group appeared on a variety of television shows, including the live music show "Yoo Hee Yeol's Sketchbook," but their appearance on "Infinite Challenge" led to the spike in popularity.
