Kim Hyung Joong Files Countersuit Against Ex-Girlfriend For Defamation And Denies Abuse, Pregnancy Claims

Legal representatives of Korean actor and singer Kim Hyun Joong revealed that the star filed a lawsuit against his ex-girlfriend following a court case.

On July 15, the K-Pop Herald reported that Kim, a popular Korean actor and the leader of on-hiatus K-pop group SS501, was seeking 1.2 billion won ($1.05 million USD) in damages from his ex-girlfriend, known to the media by her surname Choi. The lawsuit began in 2014, when Choi sued Kim for physical violence and then returned to the media with the news that she was pregnant with Kim's child in February.

Kim's countersuit comes amidst a court case revolving around a damages lawsuit initiated by Choi relating to her pregnancy and abuse.

Kim's side revealed that the latest suit seeks the return of the 600 million won that Kim gave Choi in 2014, and another 600 million due to Choi's false accusations of Kim's character and her breaking a confidentiality agreement. Choi has accused Kim of domestic abuse and released text message conversations to the Korean media. She has also claimed to not only currently be pregnant with the star's child, but to have had a miscarriage in the past, allegedly due to Kim's treatment of her.

The new lawsuit will appear in Korean courts on July 22.

The Korean language version of the K-pop Herald revealed that Kim Hyun Joong countered Choi's claims and confirmed that there was no medical record of either of Choi's pregnancies. Kim's representatives also denied Choi's early claims of abuse, saying that Choi obtained the bruising while working out.

The parents of Kim Hyun Joong appeared in front of the court on June 3, after which Kim's father told the media that Choi's family has denied the pregnancy.

Kim's legal team argued in court that Choi undermined Kim's image and interrupted his promotional schedule prior to his enlistment.

Although the lawsuits are ongoing, Kim enlisted in the Korean army in May.
