KCON LA Guest Spotlight: Young Ajummah

Our next KCON LA guest spotlight shines on Sara Layne, otherwise known as Young Ajummah, a "preschool teacher by day, a Hallyu fan woman by night."

"I've past the girl part," Layne explains.

Stepping into her nightly role as fan-woman, Layne keeps herself busy. In addition to running her own blog, she contributes to DramaFever's Drama Clubs, creates playlists for Beyond Hallyu and has a monthly radio show/podcast on Aewen Radio entitled, "Daebak City."

Layne says she was first introduced to Korean music in 2007 but wasn't officially "hooked" until 2011. Her K-Pop biases include: Big Bang, Brown Eyed Girls, Zion.T & Crush, Verbal Jint and K.Will.

When it comes to dramas, "Boys Over Flowers" was the one that captured her attention.

"The rest, as they say, is history."

Her favorite actors include Joo Ji Hoo, Kim Sun Ah and So Ji Sub, among others.

This year Layne will be taking part in KCON LA's "The Secret Lives of K-Pop Fans Over 30" panel.

"This is my first time being on a panel but my second time at KCON. I'm super excited and want everyone reading this to come check it out. I will also be running around the convention center the rest of the time so I'm looking forward to a meetup!"

For Layne, KCON is all about the drama stars.

"Kim Soo Hyun and Daniel Henney are amazing actors and have been in dramas I obsessed over for years. Having the chance to see them in person is giving me goosebumps. Also there are going to be a lot of interesting panels this year that I am really looking forward to."

For those attending KCON for the first time, Layne has this to say:

"My main advice is to pace yourselves. Last year I saw a lot of people get sunburned and extremely tired because they were racing everywhere in the hot sun, trying to see everything at once. KCON is going to be 3 days now and indoors. Take your time and enjoy what you are seeing. Also make sure to pace yourselves when it comes to spending money. Take Uber or Lyft to get around instead of renting a car. I've written more in a blog post last year that can help you enjoy yourselves at KCON while on a budget."
