Crush Accused Of Plagiarizing Parts Of Eric Bellinger's 'Awkward' On Latest Single 'Oasis'

Crush and his comeback track "Oasis" have come under fire for the song's similarities to hip-hop artist Eric Bellinger's "Awkward."

"Oasis," featuring Block B's Zico and including a special appearance by Zion. T, was released on July 9. Since then, not only fans and internet users have noticed the similarities, but Korean music critics as well.

On July 15, the editor of popular Korean-American hip-hop magazine Rhythmer, Kang Il Kwon, commented on the similarities between the two songs. "Because of the Show Me The Money 4 lyrics controversy, Crush's copy of Eric Bellinger's song has gone under the radar," Kang writes according to Kookmin Ilbo. He then goes so far as to call "Oasis" a translated version of "Awkward."

"Now, the Korean music industry has far too many musicians addicted to copying other acts and calling it referencing," Kang continued. "There are even artists who don't know that this is wrong."

Internet users in South Korea have noticed the similarities between the two songs, as well. A series of comments posted in Korean news portals was translated by Netizenbuzz, offering further insight and critique.

"I know nothing about music and it's undeniable to me," explained one user. "Crush needs to clarify this."

"This has been in the buzz for a few days now but it's been kept quiet for some reason, finally an article's up. Anyway, the plagiarism is undeniable," remarked another.

"It's totally the same, better not call it an homage," read another post.

Still, as Kang Il Kwon pointed out, even with accusations and speculation, it cannot be called plagiarism until there has been a lawsuit from the original copyright holder and a legal ruling.

For now, Crush's "Oasis" is up for debate in the court of public opinion. Take a listen to both songs below and let us know what you think.
