After 17 Months, YG Entertainment Confirms 2NE1 Comeback Is In The Works

After 17 months, YG Entertainment offered a glimpse of hope to many fans of the K-pop girl group 2NE1.

Since the release of the album "CRUSH" in February 2014, 2NE1, once major players in the K-pop game, have been absent from the scene as a whole. Between members' solo activities and personal lives, the girl group has been inactive in 2015, but a Korean media outlet received good news from YG Entertainment, 2NE1's management agency.

According to YG Entertainment, 2NE1 is positively considering releasing a new song "by next year at [the] latest."

The report, originally published by Korea's Star News, was shared on YG Entertainment's official blog, YG Life.

The Star News article focused on 2NE1's absence from the onslaught of summer comebacks from Korean girl groups, including Girls' Generation and Wonder Girls. The group's members are focusing on their solo careers, particularly leader CL's preparations for a debut into the American music market and Dara's acting career, and YG Entertainment had previously not discussed any solid comeback plans following the hiatus of one group member.

In 2014, Park Bom took a break from the spotlight after reports of a previous legal battle regarding her having family members send her drugs from the United States that are illegal in South Korea. In February, the three other members of 2NE1 were featured in the Adidas Superstar Photo Exhibition in New York but Park's absence was noted.

Star News described 2NE1 as "still very much missed by fans" who "are longing for their return."
