INFINITE Express Shock After 'Bad' Beats Girls' Generation On 'M! Countdown'

Despite being forerunners in the K-pop industry, idol group INFINITE couldn't believe their ears when they heard they beat one K-pop act on a weekly award show.

INFINITE, the seven member male group, won an award on the July 23 episode of MNet's "M! Countdown" for their song "Bad." While the group has won numerous awards in the past, the seven members expressed shock and excitement after realizing that they and not Girl's Generation won the weekly award.

It was the first time that INFINITE beat Girls' Generation for an award on a weekly music show.

After the announcement and minor confusion as to who had won, the MCs confirmed that INFINITE had won, leading the group's members to express various stages of shock and jump around the stageexpress shock before turning to congratulate Girls' Generation. Several members double checked with the MCs that this wasn't a mistake.

Girls' Generation's members reacted graciously to INFINITE's win, and congratulated INFINITE at the end of the award show.

In comparison to, arguably South Korea's most popular group, Girls' Generation, INFINITE's win was unexpected even by the members of both teams. INIFNITE's win was revealed to be due to record sales.

At the end of the show, INFINITE was still unable to express their happiness during their encore performance.

INFINITE debuted in 2010 with "Come Back Again" and rose to fame after success with the song "She's Back." In comparison, Girls' Generation debuted in 2007 and their 2009's "Gee" is considered one of the most iconic Korean songs ever.

Girls' Generation's "Party" won on "M! Countdown" on July 16, and garnered awards on five other Korean weekly music shows. This is INFINITE's third award for "Bad."
