Nintendo Shuts Down Wii U's TVii After 3 Years

Nintendo says goodbye to their TVii feature on the Wii U gaming console.

According to The Verge, when Nintendo released Wii U back in 2012 they included a feature for users. It was called TVii, and its main purpose was to change the whole television-watching experience for users of the console. It is considered to be an exclusive feature of the console where even the Wii U gamepad had a specific button made for the function.

The company decided to pull the plug on Wii U's TVii feature after three years.

The news regarding this decision was announced via Miiverse where most of the active Nintendo users can be easily reached.

The post announced the feature will be ending its service on August 11 at 3:00 Pacific Time.

Nintendo also stated that they would have to close the Miiverse community that was dedicated to the TVii feature.

Though this is unfortunate, the company released an official statement on why they decided to go this route.  They said in a short response,  "Every service has a life cycle, and it is time to focus our resources on other projects."

Nintendo continued saying that the TVii icon on the Wii U Menu and Home Screen will be removed with a system update, however the game pad will continue to launch the remote control functions when watching television or movies. Streaming content from Netflix,Crunchyroll, Amazon, and others will still be available even without TVii.

There is no word from Nintendo if another feature will be replacing TVii or not.
